WHERE ELEPHANTS WEEP premiered in Phnom Penh after sold-out workshop previews in Lowell, MA.  It was the most publicized and transforming cultural event since the Khmer Rouge destroyed most of Cambodia’s thousand-year-old artistic and cultural traditions.

The cast and creative team featured some of the most in demand professionals in Broadway and opera.

The music features a hybrid folk-classical-rock orchestra comprised of 11 musicians playing a total of 39 instruments, two of which Stafford invented in order to perform the demanding score.

Stafford alternately served as Composer, Orchestrator, Music Director, Music Supervisor and Conductor.

STUDIO CLA was founded in 2002 by Scot Stafford in order to archive centuries-old musical traditions now vanishing at an alarming rate.  Since then it has created the largest archive of folk music in Southeast Asia, employs three full-time engineers and boasts an enviable gearlist courtesy of Peter Gabriel and Richard Chappell (Real World UK), Digidesign | Pro Tools HD, Dirk Brauner, DPA, SSL and Shure.

In 2007 Peter Mayer built the current version of the studio with funding and acoustic design courtesy of Real World UK.  In 2010 the studio began releasing select portions of its catalog through IOTA in partnership with 360 Records.
